Levels 3, 4 & 5 are for students who need more

What is Intensive Strategy Instruction?

level3.jpgIntensive Strategy Instruction is a more explicit and in-depth approach to teaching strategies for students who need more than what can be provided in their core classes.

  • Students reading at least 2 or more years below grade level are provided with Intensive Strategy Instruction
  • Students learn strategies that they need in order to be successful in school, and that they are not learning to mastery in their core classes

What Students Do: Students who have difficulty mastering the strategies in their core classes learn them through specialized, more direct, more explicit, more intense instruction.

What Teachers Do: Teachers or support personnel provide more intensive instruction. This could be in a separate class, or could be extra support in a general education classroom. Instruction focuses on the strategies students need to learn in order to learn the critical content in their core classes.
