The Indianapolis Public Schools, the state's largest school system, serves students within the old city boundaries of Indianapolis with an enrollment of approximately 33,277 students. The district operates 80 schools, including five traditional high schools (grades 9-12), two community high schools (grades 7-12), nine middle schools (grades 7-8), 50 elementary schools (grades K-6), and a variety of alternative schools. The school system employs more than 6,000 staff.
